Cry of the Children

Cry of the Children was composed by Robert Puleo, the Artistic Director of Musica Plenti.  Mr. Puleo set to music a collection of poems written by the students of the United Nations International School in New York City which were published in its literary journals during the period between 1995 and 2001.  These poems were chosen to give voice to the cry of children railing at our war-torn world and their longing for a society transformed by peace, wonder and imagination.  "Listen to the children, not with your ears, but with your hearts" were the impassioned words uttered by a teenager from Chad to the representatives of his government at the first-ever United Nations Special Session on Children held in May 2002.  We hope that this work will underscore and heighten our shared sense of compassion and concern to improve the lives of abused children around the globe.

The work is scored for chorus, soloists, piano, oboe and percussion.
